Health Checkup at Home in India: What to Check Before You Book
How home sample collection works in India, what to verify before booking, what a 33 or 83 parameter panel includes, and how the Livlong plan handles home collection and report turnaround.
How does a health checkup at home work?
You book a panel, a phlebotomist visits at a chosen slot and collects a blood sample, and the report reaches you digitally once the lab has processed it. Some panels also need a urine sample, collected the same way. Anything requiring equipment, such as an ECG or an ultrasound, generally means visiting a facility rather than staying at home.
What to verify before you book
Home collection is convenient, and convenience is where corners get cut. Five things are worth confirming before you hand over a sample, and all five are reasonable questions to ask on the phone.
- NABL accreditation. The National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories accredits labs in India. An accredited result is more likely to be accepted by a treating doctor or an insurer.
- What is actually in the panel. Two packages with the same name can measure quite different things. Ask for the parameter list, not the marketing description.
- Turnaround time, and how the report arrives. Digital delivery is standard; a physical copy may need a separate request.
- Fasting requirements, since several common tests need an overnight fast and a wasted visit is a wasted morning.
- Who is collecting, and whether identification is checked at the door.
What a 33 or 83 parameter checkup includes
Parameter counts are a rough guide to breadth, not to quality. For the Livlong plan RiskPe distributes, the 33 parameter checkup covers a complete blood count, liver function, renal function, fasting blood sugar and a lipid profile. The highest plan includes an 83 parameter panel instead, which is a considerably wider set.
We are not listing the 83 parameter breakdown, because Livlong has not published a category list for it and inventing one would be worse than leaving the gap. Ask Livlong for the panel before relying on a specific test being included.
How the Livlong plan handles home collection
The Livlong terms set out how lab tests are booked and delivered, and the practical details matter more than the headline.
- Book at least a day in advance, before 5pm on a business day. A booking made after 5pm is collected on the business day following the next business day.
- You can choose a home visit where the service is available, or visit a testing facility instead.
- Carry a photo identification card and your order ID at the time of the visit or at the facility.
- Reports take between 1 and 14 days excluding Sundays, depending on the package, and some tests take longer.
- The service is non transferable: only the person named on the package may use it.
Is it available in my city?
Home collection availability is pincode specific, and we have not verified it city by city. People search for this in Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Coimbatore, Vijayawada and Jaipur among many other places, and coverage in a large city does not mean coverage at every pincode within it.
Check your own pincode with Livlong before assuming a home visit is possible. Where it is not, the fallback is a visit to a partner facility, which is still covered by the plan.
If you would rather check what your existing policy already covers, our health insurance advisory will read the wording with you.
Sourcing note: the booking window, identification requirement, report turnaround and non transferability above come from the Livlong terms and conditions. City level availability is not sourced and is explicitly flagged as unverified. No lab or diagnostics chain is named or ranked.
The plans and what each checkup covers are on the OPD health plans page, and the OPD plan calculator works out whether one pays for itself on your usage.
Frequently asked questions
Is a health checkup at home as reliable as one at a lab?
For blood and urine samples, the testing happens at the same laboratory either way, so the result is as reliable as the lab is. Check that the lab is NABL accredited. Tests needing equipment, such as an ECG or imaging, cannot be done at home and require a facility visit.
How far in advance do I need to book a home collection?
Under the Livlong terms, book at least a day in advance and before 5pm on a business day. A booking made after 5pm is collected on the business day following the next business day. Confirm the slot when you book rather than assuming same day service.
How long does the report take?
The Livlong terms state reports take between 1 and 14 days excluding Sundays, depending on the package, with some tests taking longer. Ask for the expected turnaround for your specific panel at the time of booking.
Is home collection available in my city?
Availability is pincode specific rather than city wide, and we have not verified it for individual cities. Check your pincode with Livlong before booking. Where a home visit is not available, you can use a partner testing facility instead.
